Frustration, guilt, and my rant.

In the last 2 years I have GAINED 20 pounds.
My back is starting to complain.
About once a week I tweak my nerve and it hurts for days..
Some mornings I wake up and my right hip is in pain.
I'm getting older and more out of shape as the years go.
At the rate of 10lbs per year, if I continue on this track, I will be 260 pounds by the time I reach 40.
I am 5'6" tall.
I don't think my frame will be able to handle that.

But I don't know what to do.
I lack the discipline to eat healthy.
I love me some sweets.
They are crack to me.

How do you all get motivated and stay motivated?
Additionally, it's friggin' cold outside.
So I try to do the 30 shred and I can't get past 15 minutes.
I cannot even get past 10.
Lately I wonder if I should just give up on being healthy, or if I should just keep trying.
By the time I have the motivation to work out my son is home from preschool, and I need to give him attention.
Or like on Saturday, I woke up with the most outrageous urge to go for a jog, but it was super windy and raining.
And it was like 30 degrees out.

I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.
I did see that someone makes a list of what she can have instead of what she can't.
That way she can focus on the good stuff, instead of the bad stuff.
Maybe I should start there.
Exercise is only going to help fuel me to get healthy, but I can't get healthy unless I'm eating healthy.
Such a horrid circle.

Sorry, had to rant.
It's one of those days, yanno?
I'll try not to be gone for so long, I've just been burned out on a lot lately.
Can you tell?
lol
xoxo

I am right there with you miss! I don't know what to do either, I'm already 260+ lbs on a 5'4" frame and it sucks a lot. I hate it. Yet I lack discipline... I've got to do something.

Hi Bree! This area is so so hard! I don't have all the answers, but what really helps me is to have a partner. Like, if you can get your hubby on board. Dax and I have made a commitment to each other to eat healthier and we just try to make reasonable goals. So, for instance, we don't eat junk food after the afternoon. That way, we can still have it, but it burns off before we go to bed. We just do like chicken and veggies for dinner...and I can have like yogurt or fruit or a piece of chocolate and some tea before bed, but not like full on treats. If Dax wasn't doing it with me, I'd be toast!! But seeing the results and having a buddy to do it with is the only way I can keep with it.

But of course on birthdays, date nights, etc then we can have fun food and those types of things. It's hard and it takes discipline, but it's something you CAN do!! Also, just try to set reasonable, attainable goals for working out. Don't set yourself up to failure with lofty goals you know you can't meet. Just do smaller ones to make sure you have success and are progressing somehow. Mine is just to do SOMETHING every day. Even if it is only 15 minutes of the 30 Day Shred...well you still did it! That's more than not doing anything!! Don't give up! Like most days I just do some sets of arm workouts...but the fact that I did something, anything, motivates me the next day to keep trying. I hope that helps!! Which reminds me...I haven't done that exercise yet today.... :)

Ok, here we go:
I've been overweight my entire life. My lack of core body strength has led to multiple back injuries, as well as the balance of a Weeble (with falling down included). I tried to lose weight by diet alone, by exercise alone, by the two combined, by fasting and detox routines, by gym memberships...you name it!

I have ZERO willpower. I'm not optimistic when it comes to my own empowerment (and get kind of annoyed at those who are). So I found something that works for me. And learned:

- It has to get you moving, 20-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
- It has to be something you ENJOY. Don't like doing crunches? Don't do crunches! You can try ballroom dancing, a group sport, power-walking with a friend, etc.
- There must be a coinciding dietary change along with the exercise. Even if you're just tracking calories to stay within a certain number.
- You will never lose weight if you feel like you're denying yourself joy. BUT you must have the courage to discover new foods and activities that can bring you joy. Start small- substitute a cup of nonfat Greek yogurt in place of your normal piece of toast. Try a handful of strawberries instead of your processed sugar whatevers.
- Remove temptation from your life. Throw out the processed foods (they're all high in sugars, sodium, bad fats, etc).
- Get active with eating fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc (I recommend farmer's markets for this). Get excited about trying new foods. Surf the net for fun recipes (OMG how much green smoothies are sweet and delicious and also healthy for you!)
- Set acheivable goals and mark your progress
- Forgive yourself the occasional cheating, but keep it occasional
- Drink a lot of water. Halve the number of your body weight, add that to the word "ounces", and consume that much every day. It keeps your skin radiant, your body healthy, and will get rid of concepts like water weight and bloating.
- Get others involved, especially people who share your living space. You're more likely to be successful if the people in your life make these changes with you!

And good luck. You can do it, but you need to find the motivation in joy, not in guilt and fear.

Hey girl! You got a lot of practical comments- just now you aren't alone. If you ever want to talk or rant with someone who has gone through this over and over with each pregnancy- I'd love to grab coffee! It has been a blast getting to know you!
