Update: My Facebook/Twitter break

Sunday was my last day of my Facebook and Twitter break.

You'd think I'd be jumping up and down to get back on....

but I'm not.
I haven't even signed in.
It's Tuesday.

I miss it sometimes, and when things are "boring" online, my first inclination is to head over to Facebook where there is always something to look at.
Or Twitter where I can always find a conversation to put my 2 pennies into.
But I really REALLY REALLY don't want to get stuck back in this cycle:

So here I sit.

What did I learn from my 59+ day break?

I will always find something to occupy my time.
Sometimes it's not going to be the most productive thing.

I am happier without the nagging from my kids about getting them something while I update/check/zone out.

My house is cleaner, and I have stayed on top of my laundry.
It can happen!
I rarely fall so behind where we have nothing to wear anymore.
I rarely ever do more than 3 loads in a day anymore.
It's TRUE!

I can accomplish more of the things I love.
Sewing.
Scrap-booking.
Reading.
Blog Reading!!

What else have I learned?
That if I'm not totally motivated, it's like pulling teeth to get anything listed on Etsy.
That I really want to learn to sew better.
To have more fun outside.
To enjoy a cup of coffee with friends.
The CNN app on my phone hates to update.

So, the question is, when am I getting back on Facebook and Twitter?

Who knows.

There is still the pull to go and see who has written on my wall or done something completely crazy like update their status with movie quotes.
I also miss out on what's going on in others lives.
I miss being "in the know" about a lot of stuff.
{Holly I miss you too!}

Maybe I'll just wait until June.
Guess we'll see.

How OBSESSED are we with Facebook?

Thanks LungsoftheOcean for posting this where I could find it!

I am one of the 48% of people, ages 18-34, that check Facebook when I wake up.
Well, I was until last week.
It's not easy.
It REALLY is an addiction.
Not a healthy one.
I think the only healthy addiction is Jesus.

The stats here are amazing.

While you're reading this, my hubby and I, along with MANY a fantastic friends, are moving my house.
Again.
Goodness, I'm ready to be done.
I cannot wait to be in and unpacking.
To make life "normal" again.
To feel like I'm not insane.
To eat Alex's fried chicken on Sunday night.
I won't lie, I'm pretty excited about that one.
Alex is an awesome chef.
Doubly excited that we get to hang out with 4 of our favorite people too.

God is awesome.
He is blessing us TONS through all of this.

Have a great Saturday!

Goodbye Facebook & Twitter

{I really love to hang out with this guy}

It has been on my heart lately to kick my Twitter and Facebook habit. It hit me even harder when I read a passage in Romans 12:9-10
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

At that point I knew what I had to do. I needed to kick my social networking habit in the bud. I have been clinging to Facebook and Twitter as a way to connect with busy friends. I am often found with my phone in my face checking in on the going ons of everyone else, and failing to live my life with my children during the week. In the year + that I have had a smart phone, I have had it shoved in my face. How much have I missed or ignored with my children because I'm on the computer checking Facebook? How many events have I been to where I'm checking my phone every 15 minutes to see if the little birdy from Tweetdeck is on, notifying me of any "mentions".

Just how much LIFE have I MISSED living??

I then launched the question on said favorite social sites, asking if anyone had taken a break from social networking, and what their response was? I wasn't necessarily overwhelmed with the responses, but the ones I did receive were encouraging. A close friend also voiced her desire to do the same thing. So, starting today, we plan on handing over passwords and changing emails on each others accounts to hold ourselves accountable.

I have deleted my accounts from Tweetdeck on my phone and in Chrome.
Even for my business account.

In the next 40 days I hope to:
  • Seek God in those quiet moments of my day.
  • Reconnect with my fantastic children and my wonderful husband
  • Move and unpack
  • Build my Etsy business: Get item listed, and hopefully make more jam
  • Go outside and enjoy the weather more by walking, biking and playing
  • Take a Zumba class
  • Go to Disneyland with my family
  • Get ready for all the fabulousness that is spring and summer, and hopefully plant some seeds for harvesting
  • Blog a lot. I know I need an "out" for thoughts, and hopefully I'll be able to keep up on my family blog more.

But who knows. Maybe I'll find that I'm having so much fun not checking my phone and computer so often, that I won't blog.

Here goes my 40 days of social network unplug.
I look forward to reading news on CNN's website and calling or texting to catch up with my friends other than reading what they are doing on Facebook or Twitter.

Care to join me?

Are you a FAN?!

Are you on Facebook? Did you know that Trixie Scraps has a page on Facebook just for her Fans? Well, I do! And right now, she is getting close to 100 fans, so she's having a little giveaway. Here's how it works:

** If you're not already a fan, please visit her page and become one! You'll get one entry for her drawing.

** You can also get one entry for EACH friend you refer! Simply point them to her page, tell them to become a fan and then they must post on the page Wall and say they were referred by Your_Name. Each time someone tells her they joined on your recommendation, you'll get another entry into the drawing!

** At the end of the month (or when she reach 100 fans, whichever is sooner), she's going to draw one winner of a $10 Gift Certificate to my store. PLUS, the 100th fan is automatically going to win a $10 gift certificate, as well!

On the Fan page, she post all the information for new releases, sneak peeks, special events and challenges, freebies and MORE. Plus, you can find lots of layout inspiration under the photos tab from both Trixie's Scrap Stars and other fans. She has lots more planned for her page in the coming weeks and months, too - its definitely going to be a fun place to hang out! Please join us!
